Shenandoah Valley – Big Meadow

While on our Tinymoon, L and I stayed at the Big Meadow Lodge, which, coincidentally, is across the street from the “Big Meadow.”  It was such an amazing place to walk through.  It made me think of Elysium in Greek mythology, and I am sure that you will see why.

Sign2This is a sign that we found near the entrance to the Big Meadow. It explains some of the history of the park.

Field4This is an ethereal view of the Big Meadow. It seemed anomalous to see such a big open space in the middle of a forest covered mountain.

MeadowHere is a shot of some of the trees in the Big Meadow.

Meadow4Same as the above view just made to look more dramatic with Photoshop.

ThistleThere were also many wildflowers in the Big Meadow, like this thistle.

BirchTree1This is one of my favorites. It is a lone birch tree in the middle of the Big Meadow.
